hrough our Public Forum program, Galvan Initiatives is supporting the creation of a new, independent cultural arts non-profit serving the Hudson Valley: The Hudson Public Forum. The Hudson Public Forum will reanimate two iconic performing arts venues in Hudson, New York to produce live performances and events that cross-pollinate Hudson Valley residents, that explore the meaning and experience of democracy, that feature collaborations between community members and professional artists, and that address pressing social issues both on the local and national levels.

Working toward a launch of activity in the Fall/Winter of 2024, the Hudson Public Forum plans to feature mainstream musical theater, host the development of democracy themed work by visiting artists, create themed nights designed promote understanding and dialogue between disparate communities in the Hudson Valley and commission original work that will have a life beyond the Hudson Valley.

Producing Director of Community Initiatives

Starting Date: June 1, 2024

The Hudson Public Forum seeks an entrepreneurial performing arts practitioner to be a founding partner in the creation of a new cultural arts organization in the Hudson Valley. We’re seeking a Producing Director of Community Initiatives who is passionate about producing work that addresses the meaning and experience of democracy, who is excited to bridge social divides in the Hudson Valley and who will design and manage the Hudson Public Forum’s community engagement events and programs.

Part cultural ambassador, part producer / practicing artist, the Producing Director for Community Initiatives reaches out to learn from Hudson Valley leaders and communities, curates programs that will respond to their needs and tastes and organizes or directs events that engage community members as artists and performers along with professional participants.

Workplace Type: Must reside in or relocate to Columbia County, NY. 
Job Type: Full-Time – 40 hours weekly.
Min Education / Experience:  B.A., M.F.A., or Graduate Certificate in the performing arts or at least 5 years of experience working in the performing arts.
Salary: Range between $50k and $75k commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Community Engagement, Learning and Recruitment
    • In consultation with the Executive Director and the Hudson Public Forum’s creative team, design, lead and participate in an ongoing effort to understand and get to know the diversity of Hudson Valley people and communities including:
      • In-person and online meetings involving local travel, participation in, and attendance of community events beyond the Hudson Public Forum and other activities to build authentic relationships.
      • The Development and management of partnerships with organizations who will collaborate with the Hudson Public Forum, recruit participants for those events and for whom the Hudson Public Forum can authentically provide rewarding programming.
    • Design and implement the Hudson Public Forum’s strategy to recruit community members to participate in Hudson Public Forum events and productions.
  • Producing and Direction
    • Produce or Direct community events and productions including: community specific theater, community building presentations, off-site events for community partners, local music nights, etc…
    • Manage, produce, or possibly direct commissions/workshops specific to the story of the Hudson Valley or to a specific community within the Hudson Valley.
  • Management, Budget and Staff Collaboration
    • Hire, manage and direct a part-time community engagement assistant and manage contractors.
    • Manage and track budgets for community work and productions.
    • Collaborate and perform occasional supportive roles in other Hudson Forum activities outside of the Producing Director for Community Initiatives direct area of responsibility. 
    • Collaborate in developing the organization’s overall strategy.
