hrough our Public Forum program, Galvan Initiatives has partnered with The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) to launch The Democracy Cycle, a new commissioning program that will, over a five-year period, commission and develop 25 new works across the fields of theater, dance, music, chamber opera, and multi-disciplinary performance. Artists will be asked to create new works that illuminate the promise, practice, imperfection, and opportunity of democracy.
With a primary, but not exclusive focus on democracy as it is practiced in the United States, commissioned works are to be selected over the course of three annual rounds of open calls.
Our aim through this project is to invigorate discussion and expression of democratic values by supporting the unique abilities of artists to imagine new worlds, envision new possibilities, and provoke meaningful discourse across any number of divides.
